Dozens of dogs and puppies are looking for forever homes in and around Liverpool, as families make the difficult decision to give up their pets due to the cost of living crisis.
Nearly seventy dogs are currently being cared for at Dogs Trust’s Merseyside rescue centre in Whiston, and are hoping to be matched with the perfect new owner.

9. Toto
Toto is a five-year-old Akita, looking for a home with no other pets. He may not be house trained but it's more than likely, and he will need to get used to spending any time by himself gradually. Photo: Dogs Trust Merseyside
10. Spike
Spike is a Miniature Long Haired Dachshund, who is up for adoption in Merseyside. He is house trained and can live with a well matched dog and children of high school age. He has separation anxiety and will need someone at home with him full time. Photo: Dogs Trust Merseyside
11. Peanut
Peanut is a Shih Tzu who is looking for a home without children or other pets, and where there is someone around with her for the majority of the day. Her coat will need regular grooming to keep on top, so this is a cost that should be taken into consideration. Peanut is house trained as long as she she is given plenty opportunities to go outside. She s booked to have an echocardriogram in March, due to having a heart murmur.
