Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton and Bill Kenwright following the deaths of the Manchester United legend and Everton chairman.

Charlton, a key player during England’s 1966 World Cup-winning side, passed away at the age of 86 last week. He is an icon at the Reds’ fierce rivals, having played 758 games and scored 249 goals during his Old Trafford career.

Kenwright died at the age of 78 on Monday evening following a battle with cancer. He served on the board of Liverpool’s Merseyside counterparts since 1989 and was chairman for the previous 19 years.

And Klopp has sent condolences to both of their families. Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League clash against Toulouse, the Anfield boss said: “Eight years in England, knew Bobby before I arrived here. One of the biggest football personalities in world football. I hope his family are doing OK.

“With Kenwright, it is similar. I read a bit recently about Mr Kenwright and he had a massive heart for the city and Everton. In the message he gave around Hillsborough, he said he chose the wrong city/ mums I heard about. Really strong message.

“With all the rivalry around the [derby] games, never had any issues left and right of the games. It shows how united we are in these moments and he chose the right words in the moment. My condolences to his family.”
