The former Liverpool defender was very outspoken on the controversy from the weekend’s action.

Jamie Carragher has revealed what he believes to be the only positive from Liverpool’s offside goal incident from over the weekend.

Following the decision not to award Luis Diaz Liverpool’s second goal of the game, it was revealed the player was indeed onside after an apology from the PGMOL revealed they had made a mistake during the game.

After the extensive backlash from fans and pundits alike, they were forced to release the audio from the VAR team, which only intensified people’s anger.

Taking to X, the Sky Sports pundit wrote: “The video operator is trying to save the situation for the VAR & AVAR one second after Spurs take the free kick!

“Like I said last night on #MNF they have completely froze & panicked & not made the right decision to just stop the game whether that was in the rule book or not.

“The only positive is I think this will push all concerned to get the VAR audio out a lot more & quicker in the future.”

Other than the offside call, Curtis Jones was also sent off for a straight red card after a VAR intervention and Carragher was also frustrated with the process seen adopted by Simon Hooper during that moment of the game.

“My big problem was what the referee was shown when he went to the VAR monitor and how he got to that decision. I have said this for a while, but straight away with the first shot he has seen, people feel as though the referee is going to the monitor to have a second look at an incident.

“That does not happen, it is not true. What he is doing is he is being taken to the monitor to be shown why he has made a mistake.”
