The international break always seems to last longer than it really is.

Despite Liverpool only having a two-week hiatus between matches, it’s a period Kopites have to stoically endure.

But now the latest round of World Cup qualifiers are over and Jurgen Klopp’s squad will reassemble for a trip to Leeds on Sunday (16.30 BST).

The Reds will be three Brazilians short at Elland Road. Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson Becker did not report for international duty with Brazil after Liverpool stopped them from travelling to countries that are on the UK’s Covid-19 red list.

Already a trio of key players down, Klopp will want as fresh a squad as possible against Marco Bielsa’s high-octane side.

So how gruelling was the international break for Liverpool’s players? We take a look.

How Liverpool’s players fared in the latest games

The stalemate blotted the Three Lions’ previously unblemished record in Group I, although they remain top with 16 points.

Diogo Jota scored and laid on an assist as Portugal eased to a 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan. They remain top of Group A with 13 points.

There were joyous scenes in Vienna for Andy Robertson, who helped Scotland record a crucial 1-0 win against Austria. The Tartan Army sit second in Group F with 11 points in their bid to qualify for a first World Cup since 1998.

Fellow left-back Kostas Tsimikas also featured for the entire 90 minutes in Greece’s much-needed 2-1 defeat of Sweden. It moved them up to third in Group B.

On Monday, Virgil van Dijk returned to skipper Holland to an emphatic 6-1 defeat of Turkey. Louis van Gaal’s side are joint-top of Group G alongside Norway with 13 points apiece.

Caoimhin Kelleher, who looks set to replace Alisson in goal against Leeds, was also confined to the bench for a third successive match in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Serbia. The Boys in Green have picked up just two minutes in five matches in Group A and are second-bottom.

In the African World Cup qualifiers, Sadio Mane rounded off Senegal’s 3-1 success against Congo with a late penalty.

Finally, Curtis Jones was suspended for England under-21s’ 2-0 European Championship qualifier over Kosovo. The midfielder still linked up with the squad.

Were any further injuries picked up?

No. There was a nervous moment when van Dijk was on the wrong side of a high challenge from Turkey’s Halil Dervisoglu and looked in considerable pain.

However, the defender allayed fears after the clash when he told the local media he was “already over it”.

Harvey Elliott had to pull out of the England under-21s squad earlier this week but it’s thought his setback isn’t too serious.

Takumi Minamino also left the Japan set-up after sustaining a setback and the severity and nature is unclear.
