Club reveal their stance on £47m-rated star who Liverpool 'absolutely want to sign'

Liverpool have been linked to some exciting players as they look to bolster their options both this month and in the summer.

Liverpool have been monitoring Levi Colwill's situation at Chelsea for some time now and they remain set on attempting to lure him away from Stamford Bridge as they make plans for the future.

The 20-year-old is one of the Premier League's hottest young talents right now and it isn't just the Reds who have had their eye on him lately. During the summer window, Brighton saw a £30 million bid rejected for the permanent signing of Colwill, who spent the 2022/23 season on loan with the Seagulls.

However, the Chelsea academy graduate is now a key part of Mauricio Pochettino's side and has missed just one Premier League match so far this season. The centre-back has shown off his versatility this term, adapting to his lesser preferred role on the left when called upon during the absence of both Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.

Colwill even captained the Blues against Manchester United in December, and again in their FA Cup clash against Preston North End at the start of the year.

Liverpool remain keen on the 20-year-old but it's going to be a tough ask to convince Chelsea to part ways with him in the immediate. According to TEAMtalk, the Blues have 'no intention' of selling Colwill this month, despite the Reds being 'extremely keen' on striking a deal. Pochettino wants to keep hold of his most important players as Chelsea look to close the gap on the European qualifying spots above them.

In fact, the report claims that Liverpool have 'zero chance' of signing Colwill during the January window, especially as they are under no pressure to cash in with his latest contract extension committing him to the coub until 2029.

This hasn't put Jurgen Klopp and co off the scent though, as they still 'absolutely want to sign' Colwill but will more than likely have to wait until the end of the season to revisit any transfer talks. The defender is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €55 million (£47m) but Chelsea's asking price, should they set one, is probably going to be much higher.
