Alex Iwobi gets something he’s rarely had from Everton fans as Jonjoe Kenny turns into Johan Cruyff

Everton eased any fears of a potential Premier League relegation battle looming with an impressive 3-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday.

Frank Lampard's side dominated the clash to deliver just a second league win in 16 games.

The Toffees opened the scoring through captain Seamus Coleman's close-range header.

Then Michael Keane doubled the advantage 13 minutes later with a bullet corner from Anthony Gordon's corner.

Everton would wrap up all three points in the 77th minute - with Gordon getting himself on the scoresheet fortuitously.

Richarlison's long-range effort flicked off the winger and found the bottom corner.

Those were the key moments of the Goodison Park encounter.

But here are some of the events you might not have picked up on or forgotten about.

Jonjoe Cruyff

It was a selection decision that Lampard was forced into.

With Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey and Vitaliy Mykolenko all unavailable, Everton were well short of numbers in defence.

As a result, Jonjoe Kenny was used as a makeshift left-back.

The homegrown defender does have some detractors among fans.

But anyone who watched his performance against Leeds could not fault him.

It's been a difficult couple of years for Kenny but he was magnificent. The fact that Whites talisman Raphinha was hooked at half-time underlined the former Celtic loanee didn't put a foot wrong.

Not only defensively was Kenny superb but he was a constant outlet in the final third.

And he produce a moment of magic that would be replayed over and over if it was Lionel Messi, Cristino Ronaldo or Kylian Mbappe.

Kenny pulled out two Cruyff turns deep in enemy territory before showing the composure to pick out Gordon, whose cross-cum-shot was saved.

It was the highlight of a competent performance.

Holgate avoids a missile

Everton's defence was scarcely tested by Leeds.

Two long-range efforts from Rodrigo crashed against the bar in the first half.

But that was about as good as it got for Marcelo Bielsa's men, with Jordan Pickford not having a shot on target all game to save.

Keane and Mason Holgate mopped up the danger throughout to nullify Raphinha and Daniel James.

James, who had scored a double midweek against Aston Villa, had one chance when the ball dropped inside the box but Holgate made a fine sliding challenge to thwart the danger.

The Everton centre-back certainly was alert - as he was when he had to duck out of the way of a loose ball.

Referee Graham Scott bizarrely made Pickford retake a goal kick he'd launched up the pitch in the 33rd minute.

Leeds defender Pascal Struijk booted the ball back towards the home goalkeeper to restart, with it inadvertently on track to smack Holgate in the face.

Luckily enough, Holgate spotted it zeroing in on him and managed to duck clear.

Iwobi’s rousing applause

Another selection decision that didn't exactly go down well with supporters before kick-off was the inclusion of Alex Iwobi.

The forward has had a difficult period since his £35 million arrival from Arsenal in 2019.

He's got his detractors among Evertonians, with plenty believing he's failed to live up to his price tag.

However, Iwobi was immense and fully justified his starting spot.

From the outset, he looked determined to make an impact.

That was underlined in just the fifth minute when he chased back and pilfered the ball off Rodrigo with a robust challenge.

Immediately after gaining possession, fans gave Iwobi a rousing round of applause.

In truth, that's something he's scarcely received and it seemingly gave him a fillip. At the full-time whistle, even his most vehement knockers couldn't deny he was excellent.

Lampard discussed Iwobi now needs to believe in his ability to fulfil his potential.

If the Nigeria international continues in a similar vein of form, Everton will benefit vastly.
