Veganuary 2023: Plant-based food and drink discounts in Liverpool this January - and special vegan menu items

Veganuary has begun and restaurants across Liverpool are releasing new vegan menu items and offering discounts on plant-based dishes.

Last year, thousands of businesses took part in Veganuary, while more than 1560 new plant-based products and menu items were launched including Wagamama’s F-ish and Chips, vegan versions of Babybel and Philadelphia cream cheese, the UK’s first vegan chicken breast by Meatless Farm and new vegan options at Burger King, McDonald’s, KFC and Nando’s.

According to research by Nisbets, there are almost 3,500 people in Liverpool who follow a vegan lifestyle. The organisation also ranks Liverpool as the 7th most vegan-friendly city in the UK, with a large selection of vegan-friendly cafes, restaurants and retailers - and great Veganuary offers.

Here are all of the eateries in Liverpool offering Veganuary discounts:

Maray

Maray has two branches in Liverpool - Bold Street and Royal Albert Dock - and is offering 50% off all vegetarian and vegan dishes from the main menu throughout January. The offer is valid Monday-Thursday and excludes desserts.

Down the Hatch

Located on Duke Street, Down the Hatch is one of Liverpool’s most popular vegan fast food joints, offering a range of burgers, loaded fries and more. Throughout January, DTH is offering two for one on burgers, valid Monday-Friday.

BrewDog

BrewDog offers a range of vegan burgers and sides, as well as launching meat free nuggets and cheesy loaded fries this month. Plant-based food is two for one on Meat Free Mondays.

The Head of Steam

Offering vegan pizzas, burgers and more, The Head of Steam is a great choice for new vegans - and they’re offerings 50% of all vegan food this January.

Turtle Bay

Turtle Bay are offerings £10 off vegan dishes and drinks - all you need to do is download the app!

Madre

The Albert Dock’s resident specialists in Mexican cuisine are offering a 50% off tacos every weekday throughout January.

For those taking part in Veganuary, try their Cabbage and Pepper Toreados, made with pan roasted cabbage, grilled peppers, peanut butter, miso and salsa macha.

Chamber Thirty Six

Pan-asian restaurant and cocktail bar, Chamber Thirty Six are offering 50% of all vegan dishes throughout January. The offer starts Thursday 4 and is not available in conjunction with any other offers, on Friday and Saturdays or Chinese New Year Weekend.

Special menu items and new releases this January

Wagamama

Wagamama have launched a vegan ‘chicken’ kare lomen - udon noodles served in a nourishing bowl of coconut broth with a chilli kick, and topped with vegan teriyaki ‘chicken’, coriander, beansprouts and cucumber. It is a fresh, fragrant and warming bowl available in all Wagamama restaurants and on Deliveroo for this veganuary only.

The new dish will be served up alongside a campaign of support initiatives to help nourish local communities across the country through a partnership with food charity The Bread and Butter Thing which supports thousands of families in over eighty locations.

Honest Burgers

Honest Burgers has announced the return of its best-selling Vegan Teriyaki Burger special in Liverpool, putting mushrooms back on the menu after trending as one of the tastes of last year.

Each Vegan Teriyaki Burger special comes with Honest’s homemade vegan umami mayo, made with garlic, dijon mustard, gochujang, rice wine vinegar and black pepper, bringing a rich and moreish addition to complement the sweet-savoury flavours of the teriyaki.

Pizza Punks

San-Franciscan sourdough pizza restaurant based on Bold Street, Pizza Punks, have partnered with award-winning alcohol brand, Panther M*lk, to offer plant-based cocktails, made with oat milk.

For a limited time only, those visiting Pizza Punks will have two special cocktails options, The White Panther and The Punk Panther. The White Panther pairs Panther M*lk’s classic vanilla flavour with coffee liqueur, oat milk and chocolate. The Punk Panther will satisfy any sweet tooth, with Panther M*lk strawberry, white chocolate, topped with fresh strawberries. Both cocktails are completely plant-based, to mark Veganuary.

The pizza joint also has a large range of vegan pizza toppings.

McDonalds

After a successful launch of the McPlant last year, McDonald’s is rolling out a new Double McPlant in all restaurants across the UK & Ireland from Wednesday January 4.

The delicious burger costs £4.89 by itself or £6.49 as a meal.

Nando’s

Nando’s are releasing a Spiced Chickpea wrap and pitta from January 4, after the successful launch of the Spiced Chickpea burger.

Wetherspoon

Wetherspoon have launched a Katsu Quorn Nugget Curry featuring vegan nuggets, katsu curry sauce and a bed of white rice.

One of the first pub chains to take part in Veganuary, Wetherspoon’s menu is filled with plant-based options, including a vegan breakfast and avocado toast.

Bill’s

Bill’s and THIS™ have collaborated to launch new limited-edition vegan brunch, lunch and dinner dishes. The partnership will be available throughout January sees menu additions featuring plant-based alternatives including; THIS™ Isn’t Chicken, THIS™ Isn’t Streaky Bacon Lardons, THIS™ Isn’t Pork Sausages and the exclusive restaurant launch partner of the THIS™ Isn’t Streaky Bacon Rashers.

The new dishes include vegan Bacon Mac and Cheese, and Chicken & Bacon Wellington.

The Vibe

Although the cafe is completely vegan all year round, The Vibe have launched a brand new dish for Veganuary.

The new BBQ Brisket Burger features vegan brisket and sticky sauce, stacked onto a brioche bun with, mustard, fresh greens, fermented slaw and potato bites with house aioli on the side.
