St Helens are delighted at the progress being made by Alex Walmsley.
The prop forward underwent surgery after suffering a serious neck injury at Warrington in early March, but Holbrook said yesterday his rehabilitation programme had been going really well and his training had been fantastic.
“Alex has now got all his strength back, he is lifting heavy weights and doing everything we ask of him but we will not know what lies ahead until he has his next scan which is due two weeks today.
“Depending on the result and then discussions with the specialist, we will have a clearer picture on when he may be available for selection.”
The head coach added: “Alex has suffered no setbacks so far and both the medical staff and the rehab staff are happy with what he has done and feel he is ahead of where he needs to be at this moment in time.
“Hopefully he will get the all-clear following the scan and able to carry out full contact which he has not done so far.”
