Atelea Vea says playing at Langtree Park in his full debut for Saints was “everything I expected”.
The block-busting second-rower scored to help his side start the season with a 18-7 win over Catalans Dragons.
And Vea was delighted with the reception given to him by the Saints faithful.
“The St Helens crowd was awesome, everything I expected,” he said.
“It was a scrappy game but the crowd really got behind us and I can’t even begin to tell you how much that helps.
“That was especially in the first half when we had our backs to the wall but our fans were behind us. It felt like we had a n extra defender on each side.”
Vea admitted his wild celebrations were a little out of the ordinary and says his immediate goal is to keep his feet firmly on the ground.
He added: “I don’t normally jump around like I did when I scored but that was a special one for me, and it’s one I will remember for a while.
“My goal is to stay in the team every week and obviously get the win every week.”
