Saints have received a massive boost ahead of tomorrow’s game at Hull KR with the news that James Roby, Shannon McDonnell and Matty Dawson have all recovered from differing injuries and are named in coach Keiron Cunningham’s 19-man squad.
Earlier in the week Cunningham didn’t commit himself on when Roby, who suffered a rib problem in the opening Super League fixture against the Huddersfield Giants, would be fit to return.
He said at the time: “It’s a pain management issue but there will come a time when he is fully healed. At the moment I’m at a thought process where I don’t want to risk him unless I have to, but having Robes in your team definitely gives you an edge.”
Saints will face a club currently in crisis after parting company with their head coach Chris Chester on Wednesday and placing Willie Poching in temporary charge. How they respond to a new broom at the helm could be the different between success or failure on the night.
Cunningham will select from: 2. Tommy Makinson, 3. Jordan Turner, 5. Adam Swift, 6. Travis Burns, 7. Luke Walsh, 8. Alex Walmsley, 9. James Roby, 10. Kyle Amor, 11. Atelea Vea, 12. Jon Wilkin, 13. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 14. Lama Tasi, 16. Andre Savelio, 17. Luke Thompson, 18. Dominique Peyroux, 20. Joe Greenwood, 21. Matty Dawson, 22. Jack Owens, 23. Shannon McDonnell.
Poching will choose from an unchanged squad:
1. Ken Sio, 3. Liam Salter, 4. Iain Thornley, 5. Kieran Dixon, 7. Albert Kelly, 8. Adam Walker, 10. Mitch Allgood, 11. Maurice Blair, 12. Graeme Horne, 13. Chris Clarkson, 16. James Green, 17. Dane Tilse, 18. Ben Cockayne, 20. James Greenwood, 21. Thomas Minns, 23. Ryan Shaw, 24. George Lawler, 25. Stephen Holker, 26. Robbie Mulhern.
The game kicks off at 8pm and the referee will be Phil Bentham.
