Saints-Wigan Warriors derby always generates a red-hot atmosphere both on and off the field - but it is unlikely to come as a culture shock to Lachlan Coote.

The St Helens new signing has already experienced the hype and pressure which surrounds local rivalry when playing for his former club North Queensland Cowboys against deadly rivals Brisbane Broncos - a match often described Down Under 'like two brothers fighting it out to prove who is the better.'

The 28-year-old, who is expected to fill the boots of Man of Steel Ben Barba at full back, said:''There has been a little bit of a chat about the derby since I arrived and I'm really
looking forward to it.

''I love being part of local rivalry which I experiences at home against the Broncos and I'm sure a Saints-Wigan game will not disappoint me.''

Head coach Justin Holbrook said:."I'm really excited to have such a quality player coming to our club.''

Coote - who was born in Australia - has three caps for Scotland, having made his debut in 2016.

He was the starting full-back in the Cowboys' 2015 Grand Final success, forming part of an impressive spine along with Johnathan Thurston, Michael Morgan and Jake Granvill.
