Scrum half Lewis Dodd has been selected in England’s 22-strong youth squad to take on France in a two-match Test series next month.
The 16-year-old former Halton Hornets player is rewarded on the strength of his skill and commitment at club level and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Widnesian Danny Richardson.
“We’re delighted for Lewis,” said academy head coach Derek Traynor.
“His selection comes off the back of hard work and we know he will represent the club in an excellent manner.”
A number of other St Helens youngsters were involved in the build up ahead of selection but not chosen in the final line-up.
“They were naturally disappointed, but they will use this as motivation to prove themselves in the future.
England will face France on Friday, July 13, and Monday, July 16, in Le Barcarès, Perpignan.
