SAINTS have signed a lucrative new sponsorship deal with Typhoo tea - just days before their biggest game of the season.

A new three-year deal was announced by Typhoo chief executive Keith Packer and Saints head of sales and marketing Dave Hutchinson at Langtree Park yesterday.

Mr Packer said: “We’ve signed a new commercial deal to be the main kit sponsors for St Helens for the seasons 2014, 2015 and 2016 - a three-year deal.

“The Typhoo logo will continue to feature on the front of all St Helens shirts - all home and away kits, training wear, warm up gear and coaching staff kits as well.

“Saints’ red and white colours match perfectly with the red and white colours of the Typhoo brand and the Players’ Lounge at Langtree Park will become the Typhoo Hall of Fame as part of the deal.”

Mr Packer, who revealed that Typhoo packs could feature Saints logos in the future, added: “St Helens are one of the top rugby league clubs in the world and it’s a great opportunity for Typhoo, as an international brand, to partner up with St Helens for a longer term.

“We’ve already served more than 15,000 cups of tea at the home games since becoming the Saints main sponsor. Rugby league is a perfect family fit for us.

“It’s fantastic news for both parties and we’re really excited to be extending our partnership.”

Mr Hutchinson said: “This is a significant investment in the club - arguably the most significant investment to date that the club has had. To be linked with a household brand like Typhoo means a lot to the game - especially in a climate when things are difficult commercially. It’s a great feather in our cap. We look forward to many exciting years ahead - both on and off the field.

“The Hall of Fame will be officially launched on August 5. Ouur inductees in the Hall of Fame will be represented along a side wall of the Players’ Lounge. We will be doing a lot more with our past players’ association in here as a result.”

Saints CEO Mike Rush added: “We are delighted to once again partner with such a proactive brand as Typhoo.”
