Saints are being linked with a move for Sydney Roosters’ Test centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall.
The 27-year-old’s deal with the NRL club runs out at the end of the season, sparking speculation he could be heading for Langtree Park.
St Helens will face stiff competition in the race to land his signature, though.
One of the most explosive players currently plying his trade in the NRL, Kenny-Dowall is regarded as one of the competition’s best strike centres.
It is believed Saints chief executive Mike Rush recently returned from a trip to Australia, fuelling speculation in Australian newspapers that the club are preparing to make a bid for Kenny-Dowall.
The Kiwi ace would add plenty of bulk to Saints three-quarters, standing at 6ft 4in and weighing in a 16 stones.
Saints are already well served by centres, with Jordan Turner, Josh Jones and Mark Percival.
A Saints spokesman declined to comment.
