SAINTS couldn’t have hand picked a tougher tie than the one which unfolded when the fourth round of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup was made in Manchester yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

Nathan Brown’s side have been drawn away to his former club, Huddersfield Giants, who last season claimed the League Leaders’ Shield and are invariably a formidable force in front of their own fans.

It led to Saints’ club skipper Paul Wellens - a winner of five Challenge Cup medals - declaring: “It is a fantastic tie - the stand out match of the fourth round.”

Wellens said: “Both Huddersfield and ourselves are in good form at the moment so it as all the makings of a cracking encounter.

“But to reach Wembley you need to beat the best sides, whether in the fourth round or later in the competition, and we will not be short of confidence going into this tie.”

Last season the Giants completed a league double over St Helens - winning 40-4 at Langtree Park and emerging 25-16 victors in the return match.
