Peter Harvey has led a wide and varied life - school teacher, 1966 Wembley winner with Saints, local charity worker, author and hospital radio commentator.

All have given the septuagenarian a great deal of joy and pleasure and so, too, was the invitation he and his wife, Ruth, received to attend a recent Royal Garden Party.

“It was a wonderful occasion which we will never forget,” said Peter, who along with his wife was able to rub shoulders with The Queen and her grandson, Prince William.

Over the course of each year The Queen welcomes more than 30,000 guests to spend a relaxed summer afternoon in the beautiful gardens of Buckingham Palace, or the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

At each garden party, around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed! Garden parties are an important way for The Queen to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, like Peter, who have made a positive impact in their community.
