St Helens skipper James Roby grateful for fans' loyalty

Skipper James Roby has described the absence of fans from Rugby League stadiums during the past 14 months due to the pandemic as both 'strange and surreal.'

In a message to supporters - 4,000 of whom will be making the turnstiles click merrily tonight (Monday) when Salford Red Devils visit the Totally Wicked stadium, the long-serving hooker. said: "It has been a while since we played in front of you and it will be great to have you back cheering us on.''

One club man Roby added: ''We have definitely missed your backing and want to thank you all for your loyalty in what has been tough times for everyone by bringing more silverware back to the club.

''Some supporters even donated their season tickets to the club and we can't thank them enough.''

Injured winger Tommy Makinson will be absent from the 21-man squad announced by head coach Kristian Wolf.
