Saints winger Tommy Makinson hits the mark on Soccer AM
Dubbed on TV as 'Rugby League's 'Sergio Aguero,' Saints try scoring machine Tommy Makinson gave the sport yet another profile-building shot-in-the-arm when he appeared as one of the guests on Saturday's two-hour long Soccer AM programme.
Makinson reenacted the magic moment when his kick in the dying seconds of the 2020 Grand Final against Wigan Warriors rebounded off one of the uprights and led to team-mate Jack Welsby grabbing a last-gasp match-winning try.
But his task was made more difficult - second time round - by the fact he was asked to strike a set of soccer goalposts.
Impossible? Not for the unerringly accurate Makinson, who is celebrating his testimonial year at the Totally Wicked Stadium and since joining St Helens in 2011 has scored a total of 821 points in nearly 250 games, including 139 tries.
He was spot on with his effort, which struck the crossbar, and left the studio audience and country-wide viewers, rubbing their eyes in disbelief!
Tommy was joined on the show by former professional soccer player Lee Trundle who happened to start his football career with my home town non-league outfit, Burscough FC.
FROM chief executive to shirt washer! That, according to the SKY TV commentary team, was the role of Saints' high ranking official Mike Rush when the Catalans Dragons faced Huddersfield Giants at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Saturday.
Apparently, a problem with the French club's shirts meant they had to be rewashed and despite having had to arrange all the backroom jobs, however big or small, over a three-day programme of matches, Rushy stepped in to the breach.
Just hope Kirsty doesn't ask him to do all the washing at home from now on!
