Saints winger Tommy Makinson feeling the love ahead of testimonial game
Tommy Makinson, who will officially launch his testimonial year with a friendly match against Super League newcomers Leigh Centurions at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Saturday, March 13, says he has already been 'amazed and overwhelmed' by the support and response received from sponsors, fans and other people in the town.
The 29-year-old winger told Saints' TV: ''It just shows how much the town and community want to get behind one of their own.
''I have felt their love and hopefully I can repay them by helping the lads bring more silverware to St Helens.''
Makinson, who made his Saints' debut against Salford in February 2011,says: ''Rugby League is nothing without the fans who have been starved of watching their sport but hopefully when everything surrounding the pandemic calms down we will see their smiling faces on the terraces and in the stands once more.''
However, they have an opportunity to see all their new signings in action when the Leigh friendly is screened live by Our League.
Mark Foster, the chief commercial officer of the RL, says: ''This will be another first for Our League since it was first launched and it's great to be in a position to help Tommy, but for obvious reasons it will be staged behind closed doors. 'After a tough winter, we are all keen to see some RL again.
Our League is available online via the RL website and can be downloaded via the App Store or Google Play
The game will be streamed live on all Our League platforms at a price of £5 with the proceeds going to Tommy's testimonial Fund. The price will rise to £6.99 on the day of the match.
In order to purchase your stream, you need to be registered and logged in to your Our League account on the rugby-league.com website, but you cannot purchase within the app.
