Saints old boys bring a Giant challenge
Three Rugby League players, who cut their professional teeth at St Helens, will be hoping to bite their old club where it hurts most on Thursday night.
Lee Gaskell, Josh Jones and Jack Ashworth are expected to make Huddersfield's final 17-man squad for their battle against the defending champions at the John Smith Stadium, but it could have been four if Joe Greenwood wasn't serving a suspension.
The Giants, who lie ninth in the Betfred Super League table, are still searching for their first league win of the season but have progressed into the quarter final stages of the Challenge Cup after a victory at Leigh Centurions and, by a twist of fate, now play Krisitian Woolf's outfit at Headingley next month.
“We’d like to have got a win on the board earlier, of course, but with a change of coach and the arrival of new players, it was always likely to take some time to gel,” said Michael Lawrence, who made his 300th club appearance against Hull KR.
He added: ''Coach Ian Watson has come in with some great ideas since his move from Salford and changed a number of things, including the way we train as well as some tactical stuff, ''.
Huddersfield squad: Jermaine McGillvary, Jake Wardle, Darnell McIntosh, Lee Gaskelll Aidan Sezer, Luke Yates, Adam O'Brien, Michael Lawrenson, Kenny Edwards, Josh Jones, Matty English, Jack Cogger, Chris McQueen, Jack Ashworth, James Cunningham, Oliver Wilson, Leroy Cudjoe, James Gavet, Louis Senior, Sam Wood, Ronan Michael.
