Saints forward Morgan Knowles sets sights on World Cup spot
Morgan Knowles took a calculated gamble when he pledged his international future to England during the summer.
The 24-year-old, who was born in Cumbria, had already been capped four times by Wales and qualified through his mother but now, apart from trying to help steer Saints to their third successive Super League crown, a place in England's 2021 World Cup squad is high on his priority list.
''I have spoken to head coach Shane Wane a few times and he is a brilliant, honest and a straightforward person and told me what he wants from me and how I can improve,'' said the loose forward, who is close to being fully fit following a close season operation on his thumb .
He added: "First of all, however, I need to be playing well week-in and week-out in Super League to be considered for Wane's squad and hopefully something will come from it in the end.
“I was born in Barrow and I’m English and I want to play for my country. Hopefully if I work hard, I will be able to do that and I am excited about what the future may hold.”
England head coach Shaun Wane added: “I have been aware of Morgan for quite a while now, he is a player I admire greatly.
"His skillful and competitive way of playing really suits what we want to see from an England player. I am sure he will a big part within our England top squad and the success we will have.
“I have already spoken to him and I like him. He is a player that stayed behind the first time I met him and asked what he needs to work on. That speaks volumes of him as a player, that desire to improve is everything to me.”
