Roby and Makinson within touching distance of bagging a century of tries
Saints skipper James Roby and Tommy Makinson are within touching distance of reaching a century of tries in a St Helens' shirt.
Hooker Roby needed only one touch down to reach the magical milestone since making his debut against Widnes Vikings at Knowsley Road in March 2004 and his team-mate requires just two after breaking into the first team against Salford in February 2011.
Champion Leeds Rhinos are visitors to the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday and it would be fitting if either of them joined the ‘ton-up’ club on the night and at the same time helped Saints register their sixth successive Betfred Super League victory of the season.
But that will be far from easy against the Tykes who have won three of their four games to date.
Head coach Justin Holbrook said: “Leeds are the defending champions and the ones everybody has to chase.
“They are a good quality side and it will be a tough 80 minutes for us.
“Every team will improve as the season progresses and while we are currently unbeaten and top the table, we can still get better.”
Holbrook added: “We are enjoying our start but we remain level-headed. We set high standards here and the boys are training hard and playing well.
“We hope to continue in the same manner and will be working extremely hard to do so.”
