New season countdown: 'Everyone wants to beat the champions' says Saints boss
The biggest threat to Saints completing a hat-trick of Grand Final triumphs is ... themselves!
That's the firm belief of head coach Kristian Woolf, who is now fully focused on Friday night's opening fixture of the Betfred Super League season against Salford Red Devils at Headingley ..
Woolf said: "You have to put a great deal of effort and energy into winning any competition and also remaining unbeaten all season.
"It's a tough task and the challenge gets a little bit bigger every year. Everyone wants to beat the defending champions-and we are no exception.''
Like most other clubs, Saints have made some shrewd signings, bringing on board Joel Thompson (Manly Sea Eagles), Agnatius Paasi (New Zealand Warriors), Sione Mata'utia (Newcastle Knights) and Dan Norman (London Broncos) and Woolf believes all four will bring something extra to the squad.
Salford boss Richard Marshall, who was no.2 at the Totally Wicked Stadium last season, said: ''We have seen a lot of changes at the club but with change comes a freshness, new ideas and invigorated players.
''We will likely have six or seven players making their debut and it will take us time to gel but we just want to toss them out there and face the best team in the competition as I know full well."
