JAMES Roby will be out to repay England coach Steve McNamara for keeping faith with him in Friday’s game against the Exiles.
The St Helens hooker has been recalled to the England team for the international origin clash at Warrington after sitting out last year’s autumn international series.
Roby has yet to play a full match for his club since recovering from ankle surgery but he got his England chance when Wigan’s Michael McIlorum was ruled out through injury.
McIlorum is the only other specialist hooker in McNamara’s 30-strong elite training squad but the coach also had the option of selecting in-form hookers Danny Houghton (Hull) and Shaun Lunt (Huddersfield) and Roby is grateful to get the nod.
“I’m just getting back into it so it is a bonus,” said Roby at the England camp at Loughborough University.
“I understood the position I was in after not playing for such a long period.
“I know there have been a lot of players in my position playing well while I was out.
“If Steve had decided to pick one of them, I would have totally understood.
“There is a lot of competition for places, which is only good for England rugby league.
“Hopefully at the end of the year everyone will still be playing well and it can help bring the best out in all of the players.”
