ADE Gardner is targeting a September return.
The 28-year-old winger (above) suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in May – and feared his season was over.
“I had kind of written it off, but now I think there’s an outside chance of playing again this season,” said the Cumbrian-born ace.
“The physio is quite optimistic that I could be aiming for mid-September and I’m quite a quick healer.”
Gardner, who is currently in his testimonial year at St Helens, is also hoping to extend his current when it expires at the end of the season.
“The timing of the injury is the most frustrating part.
“Obviously I’ve not signed anything yet, and I’m speaking to the club at the minute trying to work something out.
“I’m looking to re-sign in the next couple of weeks.”
