Pilkington Recs Challenge Cup fourth round match against Coventry Bears yesterday (Sunday) was one of several ties called off over the weekends and steps are now under way to rearrange the fixture.

The pitch at the Butts Park Arena and the stands were covered in snow, so it was decided to take the safer option and postpone the game, especially considering more snow had been predicted in the Midlands.

Coventry’s managing director Alan Robinson, who posted a video on the club web site more suited to the front of a Christmas card than a rugby pitch,, said: ‘’The wind chill must be minus nine which is ridiculous and we had no alternative to call it off.’’

The fifth round draw, which will include Warrington Wolves, Widnes Vikings, Hull KR and Catalans Dragons, is due to be made on Tuesday night at 7pm and will be live on the BBC Sports website.
