President's message ahead of new cricket season
The sweet sound of willow striking leather will echo around local cricket grounds once more on April 24 - the opening date of the 2021 Love Lane Liverpool Competition season.
Officials had been working overtime behind the scenes-to ensure all clubs are fully aware of the protocol under the Covid-19 restrictions and are keeping their fingers crossed that it isn't derailed by a further wave of the deadly disease which has wrecked so many lives.
In a pre-season message to all clubs, which include Rainhill, Rainford, Sutton, St Helens Town and Newton-le-Willows, league president Charlie O'Mahony, said: ''April at last and we are to have proper traditional cricket. which I was weaned on.
''I can think of many people who will be pleased that we stuck by the old ways, none more so than those that prefer a positive and cerebral game.
''At this time of the year, young cricketers dream of days in the sun, while older players try to produce the best days they ever had and forget the failures.''
