The St Helens born and bred arrow smith went down 10-7 to Portugal's Jose de Sousa after a a contest which had more twists and turns than a country lane.

Chizzy looked to be in the box seat early on, racing into a 2-0 lead and also missed a double which would have given him a three leg advantage but he was stunned when the Portugese player claimed the next eight legs and looked on the brink of an easy victory.

It proved a false dawn as Chizzy eventually reduced his deficit to 8-7 and an even chance of pulling the game out of the fire.
