Justin Holbrook has named a strong-looking squad ahead of Friday night’s derby showdown with arch-rivals Wigan Warriors at the Totally Wicked stadium.
Centre Ryan Morgan, who has been absent since the dramatic 14-12 home win over Warrington Wolves in late July due to concussion, returns to the squad and so, too, does Luke Thompson.
The prop forward was a marked absence from the club’s last Super League fixture - a victory at Wakefield on Thursday, August 16 - after being handed a one-match ban following a ball-throwing incident during a home defeat against Huddersfield Giants.
Holbrook also feels the enforced rest due to not being involved in the Challenge Cup Final will have been beneficial to full back Ben Barba and skipper James Roby who have recently been playing with niggling injuries.
“We didn’t really want a rest and would rather have been involved in the cup final but at least both Barba and Robes will go into the derby fully fit and rarin’ to go.”
Holbrook will select his 17 from: 1. Jonny Lomax, 2. Tommy Makinson, 3. Ryan Morgan, 4. Mark Percival, 6. Theo Fages, 9. James Roby, 10. Kyle Amor, 11. Zeb Taia, 12. Jon Wilkin, 13. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 14. Luke Douglas, 15. Morgan Knowles, 16. Luke Thompson, 18. Danny Richardson, 19. Regan Grace, 20. Matty Lees, 21. Jack Ashworth, 23. Ben Barba, 30. Matty Costello.
Shaun Wane will choose his Wigan side from: 1. Sam Tomkins, 2. Tom Davies, 3. Dan Sarginson, 4. Oliver Gildart, 6. George Williams, 7. Sam Powell, 8. Tony Clubb, 9. Thomas Leuluai, 10. Ben Flower, 13. Sean O’Loughlin, 14. John Bateman, 15. Ryan Sutton, 19. Willie Isa, 20. Morgan Escare, 25. Romain Navarrete, 30. Gabriel Hamlin, 35. Oliver Partington, 36. Samuel Kibula, 40. Joe Greenwood.
The referee is Chris Kendall.
