COUNTY rugby league is coming to St Helens this weekend as the women’s Origin Series kicks off in Thatto Heath.
Thatto Heath Crusaders, home to the national women’s rugby league champions, will host Lancashire v Yorkshire at both open age and under-18s on Sunday, October 18.
The Yorkshire ladies will have their minds set on restoring pride following a recent clean sweep of major honours in the women’s game, with north west-based sides dominating in the Women’s Grand Finals Day at Odsal on October 4.
RFL Competition Manager James Shuttleworth said: “I’m sure some players will still be smarting from that.
“The three finals were all in the balance and the Yorkshire sides could quite easily have won all the games. Add to this Lancashire’s victory in the corresponding fixture last year and I’m sure we’ll see a highly motivated Yorkshire side looking to come here and take the honours”
The U18s game starts the action at Close Street, kicking off at 12.00pm before the open age sides commence battle at 2pm.
Entry is £3 (£1 concessions) with all money raised on the day going to Thatto Heath Crusaders to further the development of the sport locally.
