St Helens Town made amends for a final game 6-0 reverse at the hands of Maine Road last season in what was a true “game of two halves”.

Town dominated the first period and went ahead on 23 minutes when the centre half duo
linked with Hamish Falconer from a
free kick to send the ball back into the box for Aaron Morris to
head home off the
right hand upright.

The lead was then doubled just after the half hour when Chad Whyte turned the home defence inside out before finishing coolly to net a fine individual goal.

Morris almost made it 3-0 on the hour mark when another free kick
caused chaos, but could only steer his effort wide of the left hand post.

Town were nearly made to pay, too, as Maine Road hit the post before netting with 12 minutes remaining.

But the visitors managed to hold on for victory to continue their excellent recent form.

Town host Alsager Town this Saturday (August 9) followed by a trip to Bacup & Rossendale Borough next Wednesday evening
 (August 13).
