Sutton claim win in high-scoring final

The end of season cup finals started on Friday with the DH Griffith cup between last season’s finalists Bold Rangers and newly crowned Champions Sutton Heath with the game taking place at Sutton High Sports Centre.

Bold got of to a quick start taking the lead only to be cancelled out by Heath, some more quick goals by both teams led into half time with the score 2-5 to Sutton Heath.

Second half got underway with Bold pegging a goal back for 3-5 but Sutton rallied with a spate of quick goals to take the score to 4-9 so as to complete a league and cup double with.

The next League cup final is the Rainford Potteries Cup which will be contested between Prescot Sun and Sidac Social on Saturday, May 10 at Sutton High. Kick off is 2.30pm.

On Tuesday, April 29 at LCFA the final of the Lcfa Junior cup took place between Newstreet and Mossley Hill Reserves, Newstreet were contesting their second final running and hoping to achieve a bit of history in the process.

After a nervy but entertaining game; opening exchanges were very few and far between and it would take something special to break the deadlock; up steps Martin Dearden who scored a humdinger of a goal to open the scoring and to take newstreet into half time 1-0 up.

The game was a battle a few chances in too the second half and Newstreet scored a second through John Newton again a humdinger of a goal, Jamie Cardwell added a third to complete a wonderful result for Newstreet, checking the records books it was 63 years ago since a team won back to back Juniour cup wins and the first St Helens Combination team to achieve the double of this competition.
