Debutant Michael Smith and Dave Chisnall are not expected to lift one of the most prestigious prizes in the darts world if their odds in the forthcoming £700,000 Betway Super League are to be believed.

Bully Boy Smith is quoted at 25-1 and his St Helens colleague, Chizzy, 22-1 to be crowned champion at the end of the competition, which begins in Leeds on Thursday, February 4, and ends with the play-offs in May.

But on their day both are capable of rising to the big occasion and will fancy their chances along side the other competitiors.

On the first of nine Thursday nights Smith faces the flamboyant Peter Wright and Chisnall locks horns with Robert Thornton, back in the Super League after time on ther sidelines. World no. 1 Michael van Gerwen is favourite at 11-8 with defending champion and recently crowned world champion Gary Anderson second favourite at 7-2.
