Rainford’s poor run continued with a 55-run defeat at Colwyn Bay.
The hosts compiled a commanding 237 for 9 declared with Paul Farrar nipping in with 4 for 51 and Daron Cruickshank and John Dotters taking two wickets apiece.
The Rainford reply promised much with five players getting starts, Farrar (21) Cruickshank (22) Joe Noctor (23) and Ravi Mistry (24) but only young John Dotters, with 52, went on to make a real score and they were all out for 182.
It is still, however, an open race at the top of Med Imaging Liverpool Competition Division 1 with at least six clubs, including Rainford, in contention. Rainford entertain one of them, Wigan, this week.
The 2nd XI recorded a fine four-wicket win over neighbours Rainhill after bowling them out for 109.
Stephen Birkett (3 for 14) and Andrew Harrison (5 for 22) did the damage.
After a few minor scares youngsters Ollie Lawrenson (49) and Jack Hemingway (24) saw Rainford safely home.
