A St Helens athlete will be representing the region in a worldwide athletics competition.
Fran Calvert, of Rainford, has qualified for the regional stage of the Reebok Crossfit Games and is only one of six British people to compete against 30 other elite athletes from all over Europe and Africa to find the fittest person at the event in Copenhagan, from May 28 until June 1,
The top five will then go through to the world final in America.
The Crossfit Games sees athletes compete in a wide field of fitness, including gymnastics, weight lifting, running and rowing.
Fran, who has trained six days a week for the last two years, is a Level 2 Crossfit Trainer, coaching at her Affiliate gym, Crossfit Faction, in Widnes.
The 22-year-old said: “I am quite surprised and honoured to have got through as I have only been training for two years and there was only six British people that qualified, so I am really happy.
“I don’t think I will get to the America stage as they are the best in the world. I am just happy to try to be the best in Europe.
“I used to compete in sprinting and I realised that as I was getting older, it was harder, so I went into crossfit, where you don’t have to excel at one thing, but can be good at everything.
“I have competed in other British competitions, but this is the biggest one so far.”
Fran, who came third in the Battle of the Beasts in October, will also be competing in The British Championships in London in June.
