St Helens Town’s opening league matches got off to a double victory with both the first and second teams recording victories.

At Ruskin Drive the first team captain Craig Woods put the visitors Prestatyn in to bat, and soon had them losing wickets to openers, Murgatyoyd (2-42) and Joe Payne.

The visitors lost wickets quickly slumping to 130 for 9 before Harris 53 took Prestatyn to 183 all out.

In reply I Knowles and D Gaskell put on 70 runs before Knowles was caught.

With the scorecard At 102,for 2 , Gaskell falling for 50, skipper Woods came in to bat scoring freely as he and D Roberts added 58 runs.

With three runs wanted for victory and heavy rain imminent, Woods was given out lbw needing four for his 50 leaving Roberts to hit the wining runs.

Town’s second team won away to Fleetwood Hesketh with veteran Dave Gregson taking 6-25. Fleetwood reached a modest total of 75. In reply Town lost quick wickets before Ian Huyton and Ryan Donnelly both scoring 26 took them to victory.
