St Helens’ Tungsten trio have all cleared the first hurdle in the World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace, London - and already have their eyes firmly focused on lifting the supreme prize in the sport.
Dave Chisnall joined Stephen Bunting and Michael Smith in the second round in of the competition last night when he defeated John-Rowby Rodriguez 3-0.
But it was a much closer game than the final score suggested with each of the three sets going the distance and included a 170 finish by the Austrian.
Chizzy, however, always held the upper hand and completed the match with an average close to 100.
He also won praise from TV commentator and former world championship runner-up Wayne Mardle who said the St Helens ace had the potential to rule the world.
“He is a champion in waiting and is as good a finisher as anyone in the game but sometimes has momentary lapses which bring about his downfall.” said Mardle.
Chizzy now faces 2012 BDO World Champion Christian Kist in the next round on Boxing Day and will have to be at his best to KO the Dutchman.
