Mossley 2

Prescot Cables got off to a flyer but ultimately lost out in this engrossing encounter.

Cables’ Neil Price had a good chance but blasted wide from 18 yards.

However, Mossley created the next goal-scoring opportunity, going close from a corner ball.

As the first-half progressed, Cables became more and more dangerous, creating four gilt-edged chances in a row - all without finding the back of the net.

Mossley began the second half with purpose, scoring in the opening minute.

A long ball to the far post was knocked across the face of the goal by Matthews and Robinson was waiting to score from point blank range.

Cables responded with Jack Phillips cutting in from the right and passing inside to Whitehall who shot wide of the far post.

On 55 minutes Cables forced a corner which Prince took playing the ball to Bootham on the edge of the box whose shot was blocked by the Mossley defence.

Mossley made their first change Matty Purcell replacing Lewis Nuttall who had had a fine game for Mossley.

Cables keeper Tom Quinn came out of his penalty area to deal with a long ball and kicked it out for a throw in.

From the throw in Quinn held the cross and cleared the danger. On 71 minutes Mossley made their second change Marie replacing Barrow and Cables their first James Gardner replacing Sam Corlett.

With time running out Cables made their second change, Callum Gardener replacing Neil Prince. Cables were awarded a free kick just outside the Mossley penalty area but Gardners shot was blocked.
