Underbank Rangers 18 Blackbrook 25
Brook consolidated their second spot in the league with a superb win over third place Underbank Rangers.
The visitors withstood a mountain of early pressure as Underbank pressed for the opening score before the home side’s Sam Rochford spotted a crack in the Brook defence to go over.
Minutes later Brook suffered a huge blow when skipper Greg Hale was taken off with a serious-looking knee injury.
But Stephen Parkinson pulled two points back with a penalty goal as Underbank were caught interfering at the ruck area.
Brook then took the game by the scruff of the neck with four tries in a magical spell either side of half time.
With only seven minutes of the half remaining Jordy Welsby found Parkinson in space on the left. He skilfully chipped the ball over the cover defence collected for a superb try.
Within minutes Brook were in again after an Underbank defender spilled Danny Fairhurst huge down-field kick under pressure and Aaron Hewitt pounced on the loose ball to score.
Brook found time for one more try before the interval after Jordy Welsby launched a huge 40/20.
Danny Fairhurst and Dave Scott worked a well-rehearsed move from the scrum for Scott to dive over for his third try in as many games.
Brook then increased their lead in the opening minute of the second period when Ste Marsh, back in Brook colours for the first time this season, and Mark Webster took play close to the line before a superb offload from Neil Babbs found Callum Welsby who bundled his way over from close range.
Underbank then piled on the pressure before a cool Sean Richardson drop goal helped seal the spoils.
