Billinge fell agonisingly close when they lost 3-2 at Whaley Bridge in their Cheshire League fixture on Saturday.

The Storks had it all to do after a disastrous first period saw them go into the break 3-0 at half-time.

There was nothing in the game for the first half-hour as the game swayed from end to end. Graeme Green and Chad Whyte both went close for The Storks while Mathew Brown hit a post for the Derbyshire outfit.

However on 32 minutes a routine long ball from Whaley Bridge wasn’t dealt with by the Billinge defence and Ray Dwolitka nipped in to slot home.

A minute later it was two as another long ball saw Billinge keeper Aaron Cameron was slow off his line and this time Brown finished neatly.

Billinge responded well with green setting up Whyte but the youngster shot just wide.

On 41 minutes Whaley Bridge extended their league as Dwolitka was allowed far too much time and room and before he finished superbly from 18 yards.

Man-of-the-match Elliot Bradshaw was giving his full-back a torrid time and it was from one of his crosses - on 51 minutes - that The Storks pulled a goal back as Green bundled it in at the back post.

It was almost 3-2 a minute later but the ball just evaded Whye with the goal gaping.

Billinge were now all over their opponents as Green twice went close before great work by Whyte saw his cross converted by Bradshaw to make it 3-2 on 62 minutes.
