MIners get off to a flying start

North West Counties Premier Division

Clock Face Miners 26,

Ashton Bears 0

CLOCK Face made the perfect start to their first season in the Premier Division with this convincing win over Ashton Bears.

It did not take them long to get on the scoresheet as Mark Gibson followed up his chip kick over the defence and passed it on to Andy Stanton. Then Paul Leyland took over before Matt Garner was left to score in the corner.

It wasn’t until the last few minutes of the half that Ashton finally managed to threaten the Clock line, but it held firm so the teams went in at the break with Clock leading 10-0.

Clock went further ahead when from a scrum the ball was moved quickly upfield for a move nicely rounded off by Mark Gibson. Hutton added the extras.

Chris Sheffield added to Ashton’s woes from the restart, breaking through several tackles to score in the corner.

Gibson scored late in the game to finish off the scoring.

The Saints Taxis man of the match for Clock Face was Chris Sheffield, with Andy Burns taking the Rosco Tyres players’ award.
