They wrapped up the division with a 2-1 win over Bury and a 5-0 demolition of Didsbury.

Ahead of those two games, Prescot knew that a six point haul would secure the league title with two games to spare.

Bury turned up having been title contenders themselves until a recent dip in form put them out of contention, however, Prescot had to be on their mettle from the off.

With the Prescot defence well marshalled by Hayes who kept Bury's centre forward quiet, it was down to the midfield dynamos of Lomax, Mortimer and Doyle to run the Bury defence ragged.

The first goal was a great run and finish from Si Boulton and Prescot took a deserved lead into half time.

The second half was a much more brutal affair with tackles flying in from both sides.

Boulton then finished from a penalty corner to kill off the Bury team's chances. Prescot saw out the game to clinch a valuable three points.

Rivals Rochdale and Carlisle both won so Sunday's re-arranged game with Didsbury took on extra significance as a win would put Prescot seven points clear of the other two contenders.

Didsbury played well but three early goals from Nathan Johnson, Chris Lomax and James Lomax settled the Prescot nerves and an almost faultless display saw Prescot dominate the south Manchester side with some ease.

More goals from Si Boulton and Jay Mortimer clinched the three points and the title for Prescot.
