THERE was a good turnout of St Helens Sutton Athletics Club members of all ages for the McCains Cross Challenge held in Sefton Park.
The only under 11 girl running the 1.9km course was Anna Pennington who ran 09.18.
Next was the under 13 girls 3km race with Paige Misund leading the club in 48th with 13.28, Alex Bottomley was 58th in 14.11, Alex Glynn 65th in 14.56, Elizabeth Dingsdale 72nd in 16.10, and Ellie Mawdsley 73rd in 16.16.
The under 13 boys were once again led by Adam Woosey in 43rd in 12.02, Joe Ford was 61st in 12.28, Ben Oldham 78th 13.03.
The under 15 girls also ran 3km. There was a solid performance from Rachel McGoldrick, 71st in 13.02, Maria McGodrick ran 13.40, and Shannon Partington 13.57.
In the under 17 boys event over 5.5km, Simon Anim-Somouah running in his second race for the club, he had a solid performance.
With the Women concentrating on the Salford road race, it was left to the men to represent the club in this quality local fixture.
Continuing his good form, first back for the club was Ian Costello (192, 36.57) followed by Greg Williams (215, 37.52), returning to racing, Ian Hayburn (270, 39.22). Chris Levy (336, 41.40) just edged Ian White (343, 41.52) with Alan McNally (345, 41.59) not far behind.
The final pair were the fell running rookies Dave Hampson (397, 44.04) and Phil Robinson (404, 44.17).
Jamie White who finished 104th. in 25.21 was the club’s only under 20 competitor.
Earlier in the day five ladies braved the windy weather to contest the City of Salford Ladies’ 5.25m race at Swinton.
Julia Eccleston was 15th. in 38.46. well supported by Catherine Roberts (17th in 39.02), and Cherryl Orrick (30th in 42.02), Amanda Coogan (49th in 44.36) and Joanne Keogh (50th in 44.38).
Catherine and Amanda produced splendid debut performances.
