Shevington Sharks 20,

Clock Face Miners 42

IT wasn’t until the last 10 minutes that Clock Face finally had the points safely in the bag as Shevington made them work all the way.

Clock got of to a good start with a try by Alan Johnson, converted by Martin Hutton, but it did not last long as Shevington soon drew level.

But the visitors were quick to respond with a converted try when, from a scrum, Mark Gibson found a gap and raced through to regain the lead.

Once again, back came Shevington to draw level.

Then just before half-time, they took the lead with another converted try.

And minutes after the break, Sharks extended their lead with a penalty, and it looked like there could be a shock result.

But Clock got back into it with a Gibson try, which Hutton goaled.

Steve O’Neill then put Clock into the lead when he squeezed over in the corner thanks to a well-timed pass from Gibson and it was Gibson, who increased Clock’s lead further when a break by Dave Moorcroft saw him stopped just short of the line, but Gibson nipped in then from acting half-back to complete his hat-trick.

With 10 minutes left, Clock finally put the game out of Shevington’s reach as they ran in three tries.

The first came from O’Neill, after a fine break by Benny Frederick saw him touch down behind the posts. Hutton converted.

Hutton started and finished off the next try when his kick through was handled by Chris Kinsey and Craig Dearden before Hutton scored, and then converted his try.

An interception by Kinsey led to Clock’s final try. He was caught just short of the line but from the play-the-ball, Steve Taylor forced his way over.

Steve Taylor was the Saints Taxis man of the match, with Andy Stanton taking the Rosco Tyres players’ player award.
