Prescot Cables face New Year test against Marine
Prescot Cables will be hoping to overcome a stuttering start to their Northern Premier League north west division one season on Friday but face opponents currently riding on the crest of a wave.
The Peskey Bulls make the short journey to Rossett Park - the home of Marine - who are already counting the days to their fairy-tale home tie against Premier League Spurs in the third round of the FA Cup.
Craig Davies's boys have only won two of their nine league games to date and will have to show an improvement in form if they are to topple the Mariners who have won their last five fixtures and lie sixth in the table.
Cables' return to home territory at the weekend didn't go as planned as they lost 1-0 to Runcorn Linnets,
The only goal of the game came after 27 minutes when a shot from Runcorn's Iwan Murray was deflected past goalkeeper Mitch Allen.
Both sides had their chance after the interval with the hosts unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Michael Monaghan appeared to be brought down in the area by the goalkeeper.
The eagerly-awaited derby between St Helens Town and Pilkington FC, which was scheduled for Monday, had to be postponed due to snow on the pitch.
Both teams will be hoping to return to action on Saturday - Town travelling to Lower Breck and Pilkington entertaining Daisy Hill. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
