Self-confessed Saints fan Ryan Taylor has put his full weight behind the RLFL’s decision to stage next year’s Magic Weekend at St James’ Park - the home of current Barclays Premier League high-fliers Newcastle.
The 30-year-old Magies’ midfielder, who played at Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic before heading to the north east, said: “Rugby League is a real man’s game and I am confident the Magic Weekend will attract big crowds. The Newcastle public love their sport and hopefuly I will also be able to persuade some of my team-mates (not the softer ones!) to support the event.”
Scouser Taylor said: “When I lived in Merseyside, I was a regular spectator at Knowsley Road and admired the skill of players like Keiron Cunningham, Paul Wellens and Sean Long.
“I occasionally went to watch Wigan Warriors but I’m a Saints fan and I’ve spent some great Friday nights at their old stadium.”
Tickets for the Magic Weekend, which will be played on May 30 and 31, are on sale from the 12 First Utility Super League clubs or can be purchased by calling the Rugby League ticket hotline on 0844 856 1113, or by visiting www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk. The defending champions will face Warrington Wolves on the Sunday with a 3.15pm kick off.
