MATTY Dawson has signed a two-year contract extension atSaints.

The former Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers player will remain with the Champions until the end of 2017.

WWinger Dawson joined the club in 2014 and hopes to continue to impress coach Keiron Cunningham.

“I know Nathan Brown brought me to the Saints but it is pleasing that Keiron Cunningham has seen something in me. I hope I can continue to impress him and do what I can for the club,” he said.

“I had no hesitation to re-sign with the Saints.

“I said when I signed two years ago that I was overwhelmed to be joining such a club and to accept another deal is a no brainer.”

Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I am playing for St Helens

Dawson can also cover the centre position, and admits it is still a dream come true to pull on the famous red vee.

“Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I am playing for St Helens - when you consider its history. It is a massive thing for me personally,” he said.

“To be part of the squad last season was also very special and what we achieved. I played 19 games but got injured towards the back end of the year and that perhaps cost me a place in the Final.”

The 24-year-old made his return to the side last week after being sidelined for eight weeks with an ankle injury and impressed during the 30-14 win over arch-rivals Wigan.

“This year I have played a few games and I am now back in the team following injury. Keiron has put faith in me following Tommy Makinson’s injury and hopefully I can fill his shoes,” he explained.

“I will do my best to do that and kick on for the rest of the season.
