Saints have poured cold water on a report in the RL trade press that they are head-hunting Australian international Paul Gallen.
“It’s news to be me,” said St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham, while admitting that the Cronulla captain, who has played 32 times for his country, was “a tough beggar and an excellent player”.
The media report suggested that St Helens chief executive Mike Rush will be travelling Down Under in a few weeks’ time seeking fresh talent for the 2018
Betffred Super League campaign and beyond and 36-year-old Gallen was suggested as one of his targets.
The Aussie has also captained News South Wales State of Origin team and been vice-captain of the Kangaroos, as well as playing his entire NRL career with Cronulla.
