Further to the revelation from council leader Barrie Grunewald (St Helens Reporter, March 5) that 700 incidents of domestic violence were reported to Merseyside Police in St Helens in November and December alone, I recommend reading ‘Why does he do that? Inside the minds of angry and controlling men’ by Lundy Bancroft.

It is a fascinating insight into the minds of abusive men and will benefit anyone effected by Domestic Violence. ‘Helping her get free: a guide for families and friends of abused women’ by Susan Brewster is also essential reading.

The Lundy book is available in Newton-le-Willows library however the Brewster book is not currently available at libraries in the Borough although the libraries provide a superb service whereby you can order a book for the token fee of 50p-£1 and they will either loan it from another library or purchase it outright.
