Woman, 66, hurt in ‘hit and run’

A 66-year-old woman from St Helens is fighting for her life in hospital after being mown down in a suspected hit and run incident.

The victim was injured when she was hit by a car while crossing the road in Derby Lane, Liverpool, at around 8pm on Friday (November 22).

She suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital where her condition is described as critical but stable.

A short time later officers found an abandoned Volvo S40 in Scotia Road, Stoneycroft, which they believe was involved in the collision. Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.

A 28-year-old man from north Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of failed to stop after a road traffic collision.

He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
